In New York, an overdose occurs every four hours, surpassing the combined numbers of homicides, suicides, and car crashes. Engaging with the harm reduction movement, a longstanding initiative addressing addiction and the opioid crisis through empathy and social justice. Upon initial research, we realized that NYC does not have an accessible digital hub that hosts all of the city’s resources available to the public.
I collaborated with Varun Mehta to develop a website prototype that serves as a proof of concept. This platform enables users to access specific harm reduction resources based on borough or proximity, catering to the dedicated groups combating this crisis in NYC. The mobile-first website design, and awareness campaign materials serve as a proof of concept. Currently, we seek to further develop and launch the project in collaboration with existing harm reduction and social justice groups in the city. We’ve spoken with various harm reduction groups, former users, and the city’s harm reduction department, and are optimistic about the future of the project.
